“Made In India TV”

Verdict

The VU Ultra TV looks similar to the Vu premium TV and can be said as an upgrade with some enhancements.

With amazing picture quality, premium looks, Android OS, and aggressive pricing this is surely a value for money device.

Pros
  • Stunning Picture Quality
  • Premium Build with Bezel-less screen
  • No Screen Heating Issue
Cons
  • Average Sound Quality

Design & Build Quality

“Look And Feel are very classy”

The Design of this TV is absolutely stunning with the bezel-less design and matte finish stand.

The bottom part of the screen resembles silver color.

The form factor is very sleek and thin.

Looking from the front and then from the back changes the looks by 360 degrees.

From the front, it looks very stunning while from the back it looks ok but who cares for the backside when the TV is wall mounted

Solid build quality with a solid backside. Modern TVs are thin and bezel-less so you should handle the TV with care.

Stand

The stand which comes with the TV looks very appealing.

Though made of plastic, looks are nice and solid with a matte gray finish.

To provide a good grip between the TV stand and the TV, rubber is used at the bottom of the stand.

There are two pieces of stand that need to be attached to the bottom of the Vu TV.

The hinges attached to the stand are made of steel for better stability.

For a long time, I have never seen such solid stands for a TV.

Fixing the stand to the TV is very easy, just place it correctly and tighten it with the given screws.

Picture Quality

“High Contrast Ratio with Deep Blacks”

picture quality on the VU ultra TV

This VU ultra TV features a 4K VA panel with an ultra HD resolution of 3840×2160 px.

With a peak brightness of 400nits, you will be able to watch precisely even with high room lighting.

Its VA panel ensures a high contrast ratio along with deep blacks.

Watching movies and tv shows is really good but you have to compromise on the viewing angles.

Make sure to view the TV from the front only as with increasing angles the screen starts to look weird.

For HDR content this TV supports HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG format.

Due to the use of a Full-Array LED panel, backlight bleeding or the halo effect is very much reduced.

OTT content is becoming popular but if you want to use your set-top box then don’t complain about the picture quality.

You need 4k content to enjoy 4k picture quality on this TV. The HD channels from your set-top box will be upscaled to full HD or 4k.

The colors are very punchy and bright. I personally do not like punchy colors. You can change this behaviour in picture quality by changing the picture mode from standard to natural via the settings.

The picture reproduction is optimized for certain scenes like for example during a cricket match, it is optimized such that the ball remains clear & visible always.

For gaming

playing pubg on vu ultra tv

If you want to play games from the TV itself then you will get the basic low-end games as the GPU is not very powerful.

However, if you want to do console gaming then this TV is a good option.

Not all games on this TV can be played using the TV remote. Some require a gamepad.

You can play games like PubG or other mobile games by screen mirroring your phone on the TV screen.

I personally mirrored my phone for playing PubG, there was no lag and mirroring was smooth.

Processing

Powered by a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

The processor delivers a crystal-clear picture with high color fidelity.

Comes with Mali 470 GPU which is a low-mid end GPU for gaming.

Out of the 16GB of given storage you get 11GB of usable memory, the rest 5GB is used up.

Connectivity

All the ports are placed in the centre of the backside. Though most are on the sides of the back but still you will find a little difficulty accessing the ports if you decide to wall mount your TV.

However, that is only applicable if you use a simple flat wall-mount. With a full-motion or tilting wall-mount accessing the ports will be no issue.

For connectivity, you get audio optical, ethernet port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x HDMI ports, 1 x HDMI ARC port, 1 x audio jack, and one port for antenna

For AV or RCA cables, the ports are placed at the centre of the backside.

Features

home dashboard on vu ultra tv

VU Ultra TVs are android TVs that use Android 9.0 Pie as the operating system.

Setting up the TV is simple. Just power ON the TV, and it will start setting up.

Choose the country, connect the Wi-Fi, enter your Google ID & password then it will start setting up and eventually take a few minutes.

You will then be landed on the homepage. The dashboard or UI is really responsive and fast.

All the popular apps like Netflix, youtube, Hotstar, prime video, play store are available in the top row.

You can even surf the internet or view a website using the browser app in the app’s library.

With playstore, you get access to tons of apps for downloading and use.

For screen sharing, you will need to open the screen-sharing app which allows you to mirror your phone or laptop to the TV.

Comes with a built-in Chromecast for screen mirroring.

The TV comes with a wall-mount but it is useless and you will need to buy a new wall mount. Check my wall mount buying guide.

Sound Quality

The sound quality provided here is best in the 4k 50-60 inch TV segment.

Uses dual speakers of 15 watts each making both the combined speaker of 30 watts.

You can find the speakers at the bottom of the TV. These are down-firing speakers.

While playing music, the mid and the lows are decent along with a nice bass.

I recommend buying a soundbar for the best sound experience.

Remote

The remote of this TV looks normal like any other TV’s remote.

One point to note is that the remote supports both infrared and Bluetooth which is nice.

Using an infrared remote is the normal stuff but I think manufacturers need to push Bluetooth remotes.

There are many benefits of a bluetooth remote. You don’t need to point the remote in the direction of the TV. You can use the remote in any way even by pointing it opposite from the TV.

You get dedicated buttons for Netflix, Youtube, Google Play, Prime Video, Hotstar, Google Assistant.
